Kickback happens when the blade binds and the tool jumps. It is fast, violent, and almost always caused by something avoidable.
Before the switch goes on
- Guard is fitted and returns freely — never tape a guard open
- Blade or bit is sharp, correct for the material, and rated for the tool's RPM
- Workpiece is clamped or supported on both sides of the cut
- Cord is behind you, or the battery is fully seated
- Glasses on, hearing protection in, sleeves and jewelry clear
During the cut
Let the tool reach full speed before contact, keep both hands on the tool, and never cut freehand with the workpiece held only by your other hand. Stand to the side of the blade line rather than directly behind it.
After the cut
Wait for the blade to stop before lifting the tool or reaching for the offcut. Remove the battery before changing blades or bits, and let the tool cool before packing it away.
